Fiona's story is nothing less than inspiring. Her health transformation over the last two years has seen her not only lose 15kg but also avoid becoming a diabetic. She was faced with the reality that if things didn't change she would have bigger problems on the horizon. We are so grateful to have Fiona a part of the Health Associates team and as you will soon understand by reading her spotlight, she is a rare gem! Name: Fiona Murray Occupation: Health Associates Receptionist and Book Keeper for my dad. What does health mean to you? It means being more mobile and active. For me it also means avoiding becoming Type 2 diabetic as I was diagnosed insulin resistant in February 2014. How do you keep healthy? I play winter soccer for Loftus Rovers, run 3 mornings and walk 2 mornings a week (around 8km each day). How do you stay motivated? It was hard at first, especially in winter when it is still dark, but when that alarm goes off at 5.15am I just get up, I don’t think twice about it and I don’t touch that snooze button. I have all my gear ready so I don’t have to go searching for it. Why do you like coming to Health Associates? I first came to Health Associates to see the podiatrist Anel as my ankles and feet were always hurting me once I took up running to lose weight. He informed me of my issues and prescribed my orthotics, which have made a huge difference. I saw Chris for my headaches which have reduced drastically. He has also been able to help keep my ankles more mobile as I have had a lot of tendon problems. I also see Carlie, the massage therapist. Her focus on the whole body really compliments all the work the practitioners do. She helps teach me how to take better care of my body and a deeper understanding of how the muscles work. All three practitioners are helping me to get my body back on track. If it wasn’t for Health Associates I feel I would have given up and stopped running which has helped me to lose 15kg and no longer be insulin resistant. Advice for others wanting to improve their health? You have to do what works for you and what you enjoy. I run or walk so early in the morning because it fits in with my day. If I left it for after the kids went to school or the afternoons I won’t do it. It can help to find a friend to join you with a similar interest and ability if possible. I have a friend that joins me each morning when he is not away for work and it makes it harder to come up with excuses not to go out when you know someone is waiting for you too.
